Eric Clapton - Kurhaus-Bowling Green, Wiesbaden - Tuesday 19 August 2008

Tonight there were 2 major changes in the set list: Little Wing was played instead of Isn't It A Pity and Motherless Children was replaced by Got To Get Better In A Little While!
The concert took place on a village green in the center of Wiesbaden, an outdoor concert again. When we were driving to Wiesbaden we had some torrential rain, so it didn't look to good for an outdoor concert. But we had listened to Eric's advice (interview with Johnnie Walker), and we had brought our weatherproof! But this time we were lucky, during the concert the weather was great.
The concert was probably one of the best Eric Clapton concerts I have seen. First of all, he seemed to be in a very good mood tonight, there was a smile on his face when he came on stage and it was still on his face when he left the stage! Very unusual nowadays!
Eric's playing throughout the concert was phenomenal, the rest of the band was great too. For me the most outstanding songs were Little Wing, Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad and LIttle Queen Of Spades.

Eric Clapton - Königsplatz, München - Sunday 17 August 2008

Report from Heinrich H.:

The Königsplatz, where the concert took place, is a beautiful setting for a concert. This concert was very good, I would say better than Berlin and Leipzig. Unfortunately most of the audience did not seem to react to the music all. Which is mystifying considering how terrific it was.

The highlights of the concert were Here But I'm Gone, Isn't It A Pity and Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad. Why Does Love was the best version I have ever heard, what Eric and Doyle were doing in the end was incredible! But overall the whole concert was excellent.

Report from Hans-Werner:
The concert was outdoors and unfortunately it was raining during the whole concert. But it was worth standing in the rain for 4 hours; the music was great. The show started with Jakob Dylan. His set was terrific; he played songs from his new album "Seeing Things".

Highlights of Eric's set were "Hoochie Coochie Man", "Here But I'm Gone", "Isn't It A Pity", "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad", "Little Queen Of Spades" and "Cocaine". On "Cocaine" he played wah-wah during the solo. There was one change in the set list compared to the previous shows: "Rock Me Baby" instead of "Driftin'".

Tonight Eric and the band played the first of the four German concerts in Leipzig, Germany. It was extremely hot in the hall, and at first it looked like the concert would be the same as in Iceland. The first song of the concert, "Tell The Truth" didn't sound too exciting. But from then on the concert was fantastic, highlights of the concert were "Hoochie Coochie Man", "Here But I'm Gone" (one of the best versions I have heard so far, 2 fantastic solo's by Eric - 10 mininutes long version ) and "Little Queen Of Spades" (great solo by Chris Stainton).

The three members of Cream plan to gather again in October....

but whether they'll play music together is up in the air......

Jack Bruce says that he and Eric Clapton plan to attend an Oct. 3 ceremony at which Ginger Baker will be given a Drummers Achievement Award by cymbal maker Zildjian at the Royal Festival Hall in London. "'Cause I'm only the bass player, I can't say for sure," Bruce explains. "I know there's a good chance we may play at that event ... but I don't want to overstate it and make it into something it isn't."

Bruce did say, however, that he, Clapton and Baker will likely "have a chat about" some future reunions, as the trio did May 2005 in London, which resulted in a subsequent live album and DVD, and October 2005 in New York. "I think there might be a chance of some more," Baker says. "I would like to do some more, 'cause I enjoyed it. It was very emotional. I would like another shot at it.

"It's quite difficult for us, 'cause it's all very separate," he continues. "Ginger's living in South Africa. Eric's this mega-star, and it's difficult for us to keep in communication. But as soon as we do it's wonderful."

In addition to Baker, Zildjian will be honoring the Jimi Hendrix Experience's Mitch Mitchell at the October ceremony. Other musicians expected to attend and perform in some capacity are Jason Bonham (Foreigner, Led Zeppelin), former Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord, the Killers' Ronnie Vannucci, Razorlight's Andy
Burrows and members of Paul Weller's band, among others.

Bruce, meanwhile, is keeping busy on this summer's Hippie Fest tour, which runs through Aug. 10. He'll then take part in a tribute concert for the late Who bassist John Entwistle on Sept. 20 in Cary, N.C., before working on a broadcast with the BBC Big Band.

In December, Bruce will be part of a tribute to the late Chic drummer Tony Thompson that may also come to the U.S. in 2009, and he's making plans to record the third album in his Latin fusion trilogy, which might be tracked in Cuba if proper arrangements can be made.

Eric Clapton Performs At Bunbury’s Party In London on 8 May 2008

UPDATED 3 JULY 2008: A full report on the tribute at Grosvenor House, 8th May is now available on the Bunbury cricket homepage, together with a review of Eric Clapton's special concert:

To close the night in suitable style, Ian’s esteemed friend and companion Eric Clapton kindly obliged by performing a live set just before the strike of midnight for the unique assembled audience. Eric took to the stage to deliver a selective, predominantly acoustic ‘unplugged’ blues set, in the company of members of his current touring band. EC performed with Pino Palladino on bass, Ian Thomas on drums, with Sharon White & Michelle John delivering backing vocals.

EC’s set list transformed featured sober classics from albums ‘Unplugged’ and ‘From The Cradle’ to a different level, with Pino and Eric’s musical intuition and technical acumen being faultless throughout the hour- long set. Notable new additions explored by Clapton in his repertoire were Hoagy Carmichael’s ‘Rockin’ Chair’ and Wilson Pickett’s ‘Don’t Knock My Love’. The reassurance of familiar classics, ‘Wonderful Tonight’, ‘Cocaine’ and ‘Crossroads’ truly brought the house alight as Eric declared “Bless you Beefy” to close the tributes to Ian. The sincerity of EC’s seated acoustic prowess on numbers including ‘Motherless Child’ and ‘Running On Faith’ added to the ambience of the occasion and brought the Bunbury’s tribute full circle. The occasion offered a truly efficacious integration of the worlds of music and sport to achieve a greater good in honouring Sir Ian Botham’s seminal talents.

Band: Chris Stainton (keyboards), Pino Palladino (bass), Ian Thomas (drums), Sharon White (backing vocals) and Michelle John (backing vocals).

Set list:

Rocking Chair (acoustic)
Nobody Knows You (acoustic)
Motherless Child (12 string)
Running On Faith
Key To The Highway
Hoochie Coochie Man
Don't Knock My Love
Little Queen Of Spades
Before You Accuse Me
Wonderful Tonight
Cocaine
Crossroads
